Who Has Time For That?

If you feel that there are never enough hours in a day, you are right! The clock keeps ticking whether we like it or not. But what are we spending our precious few hours on?

Here are some astounding facts:

  • The average person watches TV over 4 hours a day. That’s 28.5 hours each week.[1]
  • The average internet usage is 43.5 hours per month.[2] That equates to an hour and a half each and every day.
  • The average Canadian spends an unbelievable 32 days each year commuting to and from work.[3] That’s over 768 hours trapped in your car every year!iStock_000004879552Small

It’s no wonder we feel we don’t have enough time.

It’s because of that last statistic that Zig Ziglar suggests we turn our vehicles into “rolling universities.”  Tossing in a CD or tuning into a podcast can help turn your commute into learning time.

But what should we focus on?

God tells us to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to us (Mathew 6:33). As Christians, God should be our number one priority. Without this, our entire life can easily feel out of balance, without margin and focus. Now many of us know this to be true yet people continue to tell me that they have no time in their day to read the Bible, pray, serve others or even plan out their own life.

How would your life be different if you popped an audio version of the Bible into your car’s CD player or listened to one of many Bible podcasts each day? Perhaps one of the many life changing, thought provoking personal development resources I’ll be suggesting throughout this blog. I believe that this simple act can change your thinking and sharpen your focus. And changed thinking leads to changed actions. Life Change!

Each week I will recommend a resource that has changed my way of thinking.

For starters, I recommend Andy Stanley’s podcasts. They have made a tremendous impact on my changed mind and they have really changed my focus.

The Andy Stanley Leadership Podcast is specifically directed to business people and leaders. It is a conversation designed to help leaders “go further, faster.”

On the North Point Community Church podcast, Andy’s mission is to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. This podcast will really encourage you in your relationship with God.

Also, for those of you with a shorter commute, another by Andy Stanley is Your Move. These 30- minute podcasts will help you learn how to make better decisions, live with fewer regrets and move closer into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

What will you listen to during those 768 hours in your car this year?

Attitude             Think about what you spend your time on. What are you willing to give up in exchange for a more focused life.

Action               Commit to giving up something you spend your time doing like listening to the radio while driving and turn your car into a “rolling university.”

Share your story with me. How much time do you spend in your car each day? Is it time well spent?
